Tell us a little about yourself: What field do you work in and how did you get there?
I am Marta, owner of "El Gabinete de Marta", a massage center in Logroño, I am going to share with you a little about myself and my business.
My business, El Gabinete de Marta, is focused on non-therapeutic massages, with a focus on well-being and relaxation deeply connected to sustainability. Since I was a child I was attracted to nature, personal care and emotional well-being. I dreamed of being a biologist, but life took me on a different path when I discovered the transformative power of massage as a tool to connect with the body and reduce stress.
Before starting a business, I worked in customer service, but I felt that it was not aligned with my values. I decided to train in massage and wellness techniques. In that process, I understood that my business should be a reflection of my love for the environment. It wasn't easy: I lacked business management knowledge, so I took online courses and looked for resources at local entrepreneur associations.
Why is the "green", i.e. ecologically sustainable dimension of business important to you and why do you think that other entrepreneurs should also deal with it?
My main motivation is to create a space where people feel cared for while we also take care of the planet. I firmly believe that small conscious actions can have a big impact. For this reason, at El Gabinete de Marta we use natural oils, organic and recycled fabrics, and we minimize the use of plastics.
I recommend those who want to run a green business start with small steps: choosing sustainable suppliers, educating customers about the impact of their choices, and being transparent about the processes. Also, make sure your passion for the environment is genuine, because consumers value authenticity.
What advantages does entrepreneurship bring to your life compared to a job?
As an entrepreneur, I can create a space where quality of life is prioritized, both for myself and my clients. Of course, it's not an easy path: the schedules can be intense, but the satisfaction of seeing something grow that was born from your vision makes up for it.
Additionally, entrepreneurship has allowed me to learn skills I never imagined, and has connected me with an incredible community of people who value what I do.
How do you promote your products? Is online marketing important to you and do you think it is important to people in business in general? (Are you involved in building your customer community in any way?)
Most of my clients come through the environment in which I develop my personal and professional life. I use Instagram and Facebook to showcase what I do, from massage techniques to relaxation and sustainability tips.
Online marketing is crucial today, it allows you to reach a wider audience, create a loyal community and educate people about your values. I always respond to messages and comments to strengthen the relationship with my clients. I also offer discounts for those who recommend the cabinet to friends, encouraging word of mouth.
What advice would you give to ladies starting a business?
First, trust in yourself. Many times we question if we are good enough, but confidence is key to moving forward.
Second, surround yourself with a support network: mentors, friends, or even online communities of female entrepreneurs. Sharing experiences can save you many setbacks.
Lastly, don't be afraid to make mistakes. Every mistake is a lesson. And remember to prioritize yourself: a healthy business is born from an entrepreneur who takes care of herself as much as she takes care of her project. Oh, and don't forget to celebrate the small achievements, because every step counts!
